Another Goodbye

I don't know why it took me so long to make this post! Ryan and I had dinner with Amanda & Kelly last week, Tuesday, before they went back to CA. They wanted to eat a place that they couldn't in Cali, so we went to a local mexican joint. It was quite tasty. But, we wanted dessert (desert; for amanda) and they were closing, so we hit up, none other than our friendly neighborhood Applebee's. Hah. I couldn't decide on one dessert shooter, so I got all three. I tried really hard to eat it all, but it was just too much sugar. However, delicious. I will miss them and I can't wait to see them again.

 Now for some embarrassing photos!

Finally

Finally we found a co-teacher for me!!
She has a five, soon to be six month old baby boy. She is great,a few years older than I am and kind of nervous, but I'm sure she'll get the hang of things. If only I had someone with my passion. Can I ctrl C?!
I'll keep you updated.

Saying Goodbye

As you have read I'm getting a new teacher, so my current co-teacher is leaving our classroom. I really love this woman, again as you have read over and over. She is kind, gentle, funny, and caring. Without her this first year would have been difficult to say the least. So as a partinf gift I decided to make her a scrapbook. I went to Target, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and Wal-Mart in search of a book that didn't suck. All of the scrapbooks they make these days have page protectors which is dumb, and which is why I didn't like any of them.I came out of each store with nothing. Except for Target. All of their scrapbooks did suck, so I decided to buy a cute notebook and punch holes in the pages and make the book that way.

I wanted to put pictures of all of her years at our school, but there is no way to find all of those pictures. The school's picture archive is only like three years old. So, all of the pictures will be from our one fantastic year together.

Front page with our classroom photo and tiny pictures of the seven little ones.
My partner is on the far left and the teacher in the middle is our regular helper.

The note I left her on the last page.

What a fantastic year! Thursday was pretty emotional for us and all the parents. It's a uniqe ending to the school year.

End of the first year

This week was my class end of year party. It's a hoot, because they're 13-17 months old so it's pretty much time to get together with parents and watch the babies play. It's fun to hear the parents socialize and discuss what the kids behaviors and show fun pictures. We always throw killer parties in the lambs class.
I loved my first year in this class and am excitedly preparing for the second year next Tuesday! The parents were great and all of the babies were my favorite. I love all aspects of my job and pray that next year will be just as wonderful.

Our classroom party setup looked a little something like this

The babies painted the paper plates with foam paint.

We took pictures of them a couple of weeks ago with a cap and gown on. They are insanely precious!!

Their hats and portfolios and some special surprises for the families (footprint pictures from their first day to one year old, butterfly footprints, and a cd of all pictures from this year). One of our sweet things got sick last week, and he was not there that's why there are only six. We usually have seven present.

Coco's swimming adventures

This weekend we took Coco to my parents house with intentions of swimming in the small above ground pool. If you recall we bought Coco a lifejacket for our South Padre vacation. He did use it in the ocean, but was very unhappy about it. We thought maybe if we get him out of the waves he'd like the water more. Did he? Of course not. He is very catlike, so it was no surprise. He's still precious trying though!

At my parents:

Without his life jacket

It was an epic fail with his lifejacket on. He kept trying to pull his legs inside of it to climb on top of it, so he would get one leg stuck and start to roll. Have no fear, Ryan never let go of him, he never rolled all the way over!

In South Padre:
Honestly the best video of him swimming in South Padre
I think he just needs more practice! Poor dog.

Project 52 {3}

I was thinking something like this:

But, here's the real one.

With my new schedule and time on my hands surely I'll be patient enough to finally get it.

Ruh-Roh

in the words of Scoob Doo. Ruh Roh Raggy.

We definitely have a ruh roh situation on our hands. New teacher orientation started on Monday at my school. I was looking for my new teacher in the crowd and I didn't see her. Mind you I only peeked in the door once, so she could have been anywhere. Right? Well, my director and assistant director call me into the office later on Monday to inform me that they received an email from my supposed new teacher on Friday that she was turning down the position. What a scaredy cat! For real, the weekend before training she emailed and said she wouldn't do the job. After searching and searching for this girl she just up and walks away.

Super bummer.

We decided it would not be wise to put my current teacher back in with me temporarily, because it will #1 cause confusion about leadership in the classroom and #2 be painful for her when we move her out to be replaced. But, my other options, pardon me, totally blow! Completely unacceptable subs, I do not want in my class. Not to mention in charge in the afternoons! Ahh. So, we are frantically looking for a new teacher. That is nearly impossible for infants. No one wants to do this job, except for a few special people. Like me.

I'm calling up all the people I know who would maybe be slightly interested and maybe I'll make some connections and find a new teacher.

Needless to say the start of school, August 30th is going to be a doozy. I'm not ready.

Tara's Birthday

Tara's (Ryan's oldest sister) birthday is August 15th. We celebrated her birthday on Saturday. His sisters came over and we had cupcakes and burgers. Ryan and I bought her "Emma" with Kate Beckinsale and made her a card along with a hilariously stupid rap about a monkey and a banana. After so many birthday cards you can only say cheesey things so many times, so we said something silly.

This is her party hat. Ryan got it from work.
She once did an estimating job for a company that
had a ton of these fans in their building and she was wondering
why they called them that, the fans that is. Then she found out it was
the real name of the fans. So serendipitous.

Life's a beach

Amanda and Kelly came to Texas for a week or so to visit from CA. They are doing very well, but still pretty much hate it there. When Amanda comes to Crosby, Jessica comes to Crosby! So, we all got together, of course. We went to our favorite spot Mosquito Cafe. Delish. Then we went to their mom and step dad's new beach house to hang out. The house is beautiful and has an awesome view less than a block away from the beach. We swam for a while and their step dad made shrimp and burgers. This will not be the last time we see them before they go back to CA.

Jewelry Fix

No, I don't mean like going shopping to acquire more cute jewelry to mix and match! I mean really fixing the jewelry that I have. My parents bought me this cute owl necklace from Paris for my birthday. I wore it to Sunday school two weeks ago, I teach pre-k & 5's, and it broke, because one of the children was hanging on me. The finding wasn't strong enough to support a fully grown five year old.
Ryan and I went to Michael's that day, because Hobby Lobby was closed, and found a packet of findings that closely matched the silver of the neclace. This is not my first jewelry fix. I found cute yellow earrings for the bridesmaids from Charming Charlie and upon getting them home decided I didn't like them at the length they were made. So, I used plyers and just unfastened each loop on the earrings that I wanted to take off. Piece of cake. They were really cute after that.
I also bought a pair of sparrow earrings on super sale from Forever 21 and didn't like the length of those either. So, I took off one of the sparrows, but am yet still not satisfied with the length. I may change them again.
Look at all that junk that went on each earring.
I also, have a pair of black rose earrings from Francesca's that recently broke. One of the flowers just came unglued. A little super glue and good as new. So, I knew that the owl wouldn't be hard.
Ta-Da...
Broken finding
Mended finding

O is for the only one I see

I got my class roster today and let's count 'em: 1, 2, 3 that's right only one girl in my class next year! Wow, what a year it will be (as I fake a smile and bite my nails) six boys. This should be fun.

Treats

I've had the idea in my head for a while to make snack bags for my lunches. You know, to cut down on the ziploc baggie usage. Those things get expensive. I found a tutorial over on Pinterest but decided to play around and make my own pattern etc. It's super simple really. Mind you the little snack bag on pinterest looks better than mine, but they're a work in progress. My sewing skills are very beginner.

I still think they're pretty cool. I've only made six and I'm working with the dimensions to make more. I couldn't find the polyurethane coated nylon pack cloth in stores and didn't want to wait to order it online. So for my test runs I just bought a plastic tablecloth with the polyester backing for an extra secure hold. It's probably not the safest thing to eat from, but what plastic is really?

I played around with the sizes and came out with some funky stuff, but was able to use the really long one to temporarily store coupons, so it works. The others i haven't quite figured out what to do with. I have three that I made and used last week. One for a sandwich (the size was a total accident) and two for chips and other things; cheese cubes, broccoli, celery, carrot sticks!

I found these cute fabrics at Hobby Lobby 30% off. I just walked around until I found something that grabbed my attention being as that I've never shopped for fabric before. It was fun!

Here are progress shots of the latest snack bag ( I must say my straight sewing lins are getting so good!):

The fabric and liner cut out
Fold the ends over and sew together
Sew the sides together, inside out
And attach the velcro. I wanted white, but Ryan bought this stuff a while ago for a project and it's the stick on stuff so it's easy.
And here's the final product closed. It's on an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of printer paper to give you an idea of dimensions.
Here's a picture for depth. It will hold a lot of chips! Yum

Sweet 16

My little brother turned 16 last Saturday. I can't believe it! I remember when he was the size of a football. So tiny and fat! What happenend?

We met my parents and brothers at a restaurant and they brought him  this flower thing with a piece of cheesecake. They lit the flower on fire and it opened up and played the melody of "Happy Birthday". It was super cute.

Ryan so desperately wanted to buy my little brother a Bowie Knife. I let him. It is crazy and I refused to bring the gift into the restaurant. He really enjoyed it, and so did my parents.

We printed off knife laws in Texas, which was about half a page long, and rolled it up and stuck it under the ribbon of the gift. I know my brother and I was fearful he wouldn't take the gift seriously. So, I made sure he did. I made him a card and wrote three rules on the back for reassurance. You know, like: no one else can ever touch the gift, and it's only used for bear grylls type activities.

I also made him cupcake brownies complete with small blue flags on each brownie that spelled out sweet sixteen. Hah.
Still can't believe it!

Team Leader

As I said a week or so ago, I am the new team leader for the infant/young toddler department at my school. I consider it a huge honor and very flattering that the admin team and other team leaders nominated, and chose me to be the new team leader.
My first team leader meeting was on Tuesday. I was the last to show up to the meeting, because I am in a classroom at scheduled meeting time, so the woman who was supposed to cover me was ten minutes late. I get to the meeting and they sing "For she's a jolly good fellow" (a tradition at our school to sing this song), quite embarrassing.
I think the experience will be great. Some of the women have a hard time focusing on anyone but their own department and classroom. I definitely think that I will have to work hard to think about the whole of my small department and not just my class. I am over four classes, 9 teachers. Two of the classes are 12 month programs (mine included) and two are 9 month programs. The 9 month programs work very differently so, I have my work cut out for me. I am excited to learn it all and be a part of the department leaders team.
The meeting was drab, but reminded me of how quickly this 12 months is coming to a close, and how much beginning of the year stuff I don't remember. The new school year is going to be a doozy.

Project 52 {Catch up}

I really wanted to go along with Emily's Project 52, but last week I missed it. The pictures will get more interesting come September, tell you later! No it's not what you think, I don't think; If that's what you're thinking. So here it begins...

Oh the baby blues, I mean pinks

One friend has recently had a baby girl and for her shower gift I bought a boppy and some other small item I can't remember. The boppy cover was not the one she wanted, but was the cutest at the Target store, it has owls on it and it's pink. She liked the owls so much she kind of ran with that theme in the room. Well she bought a sweet owl figurine on Etsy to put on the shelf in the baby's room.
Our Sunday school class signed up to bring the family food the first few weeks after the baby was born. Ryan and I made them a chicken pot pie with a recipe we found online. No props to us on ingenuity, but they did enjoy it. We also bought them the cutest little bear babie booties from Wal-Mart, some diapers and a watermelon. It was a fun trip to bring them gifts and see the sweet red headed baby girl. She is to die for!

Another friend of ours is having a baby girl very soon, next month. For her first shower I bought some bottle stuff she registered for and a ring stacker from Babies 'R Us, a class favorite among my babies. I made a tissue paper G, because I didn't know the babies initials until the day before the shower, also seen on Pinterest, and I found the cutest scrapbook paper with umbrellas on it for the shower card. The baby shower was at Olive Garden and I helped a friend decorate. It was all very sweet.

For the friend's second baby shower I stole yet another idea from Pinterest! Way to go creative people with awesome computer programs and the ability to save picture as! Hah. Found the idea here. I framed it and it looked like this:

Pretty cute if I do say so myself Pinterest.
I also made her a bib out of old shirts. They were thoroughly washed before and after the project. I found a tutorial here. I just kind of eyed everything and made it work. It's very imperfect which makes it kinda great. I hope she likes it. I also made another card with the same umbrella paper. Hello it's precious.

And so goes my baby blues taken over by baby pinks! Who doesn't love a sweet baby girl!

Spend It All

Made me laugh out loud.
